MILITARY ORDER OF THE COOTIE
& MILITARY ORDER OF THE COOTIES AUXILIARY
The name MOC and MOCA refers to the Military Order of the Cootie and Military Order of the Cootie Auxiliary. Cooties are dedicated members who perform duties involving the aid to hospitalized veterans and those who are sick or injured, providing blood, visitation, clothing and entertainment at VA medical centers and other non-VA facilities.
The Military Order of the Cootie and the Military Order of the Cootie Auxiliary are a subordinate order of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. It is governed by and under the control of the National convention, the National Council of Administration and the Commander-in-Chief.
Only active members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States are eligible for membership in the Military Order of the Cootie or the Military Order of the Cootie Auxiliary and such membership continues and is conditioned upon retaining active membership in the VFW. Selected membership is done by the Cootie Pup Tent by invitation.
Pup Tent #14 is the Cootie Organization from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1503. Our members are very active and frequently conduct visits to the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond Virginia to visit patients. Hospital Visits are done every other month and on the first Saturday of that month. Pup Tent #14 is fortunate to have members from a local Girl Scout Troop join them in visiting the Veterans, helping distribute packages which include personal items, healthily snacks, handmade blankets, sometimes just a fun to have item or decoration for their room. Some of the more fun activities enjoyed by both the patients and the Cooties during those visits include Playing Bingo, a Casino day, Ice cream social, Dancing and Karaoke which takes place in a large meeting room with access to kitchen facilities and a sound stage.
