VFW Post 1503 is Named after Lieutenant General Lewis Burwell "Chesty" Puller who was an officer in the United States Marine Corps. To date he is the most decorated United States Marine in history. Puller was the only Marine to receive five Navy Crosses; the United States Navy's and Marine's second highest decoration after the Medal of Honor. He was legendary not only for his military exploits, but also for the caring and friendliness he provided his troops. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 38 years and retired from the Corps in 1955 spending the rest of his life in Virginia. Born on June 26th, 1898 and passed away October 11th, 1971.
